And I would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling republicans…
It was a brilliant strategy — rig the election by using altered absentee ballots.
By encouraging committed democratic voters to submit absentee ballots “after” Election Day (using doctored official forms to make them appear to have been sent within the legally prescribed deadline) Democrats would have additional votes for the recounts taking place in Florida.
The possible election fraud scheme was uncovered and reported by Ana Ceballos last week. Ceballos who works for Naples Daily News discovered the attempted malfeasance by Democratic Party officials and reported them to federal prosecutors.
The altered forms surfaced in Broward, Santa Rosa, Citrus and Okaloosa counties and were reported to federal prosecutors to review for possible election fraud as Florida counties completed a required recount.
USA TODAY NETWORK obtained an email by a Democratic operative in Florida, detailing how Democrats devised a strategy to organize on a broader statewide level beyond the contested counties of Broward, to purposely rig the election, by giving Democratic voters altered forms to fix improper absentee ballots after the Nov. 5th deadline.
Party leaders provided their staff the day after Election Day official copies known as “cure affidavit,” that had been altered to include an inaccurate phony deadline.
The strategy was apparently to submit as many absentee ballots as possible with the altered forms, in hopes of later including them in vote totals, and perhaps having a judge rule those ballots should be allowed in the overall recount.
Jake Sanders, a Democratic consultant in the Treasure Coast who saw the email which was obtained by USA TODAY, acknowledged that he warned party leaders and staffers regarding the legality of altering official forms. However, he was ignored.
“I warned FDP staff members of the questionable legal status of altering a state form and misleading people their vote would be counted before the court case played out,” Sanders said. “And coordinated campaign leadership told them to keep pushing it that, ‘We are exhausting every possibility.'”
“They (party leaders) should have been saying, ‘This is unprecedented. We are fighting for your vote to count. Fill this out so we can fight for you.’ But self-imposing a fake deadline and deceiving people is counter to that,” Sanders said.
The wider issue, of course, is how the Democratic Party has disintegrated into “winning at all costs” regardless of the legalities or the consequences to the integrity of our institutions.
We witnessed the “scorched earth policy” that played out during the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, where the rule of law no longer mattered. We’ll likely once again witness that corrosive and toxic political environment in January after Democrats take control of the House.
