It may not be legal, but it’s a politically brilliant strategy — and it had Democrats screaming at the top of their lungs.
On Friday House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was visibly shaken at the mere thought of having thousands of illegal aliens camping on her doorstep in San Francisco as she took to the mic to admonish the President saying:
“Just another notion that is unworthy of the President of the United States and disrespectful of the challenges we face.”
Pelosi’s spokeswoman Ashley Etienne also doubled down against the President saying:
“Using human beings, including little children, as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable, and in some cases, criminal.”
On Monday House Democrats also blasted the White House for suggesting that illegal migrants should be shipped to sanctuary cities like New York, Chicago, LA, and San Francisco.
The apoplectic legislators called the Presidents proposal “bizarre and unlawful” demanding to see documents from the White House and the Department of Homeland Security related to the policy.
The President had previously toyed with the idea of shipping illegal aliens to sanctuary cities, after the disastrous policy of “catch and release” that forces the administration to release migrants into already overcrowded Border States.
The suggestion was first floated during the winter by a staffer within the Administration and was immediately discounted by White House lawyers as perhaps being illegal and logistically problematic.
However with the historically unprecedented number of illegal migrants overrunning the border and being released into Border States, the probability of shipping migrants into other areas of the country, now seems plausible, which had the President on Friday Tweeting.
“Due to the fact that Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only.”
Adding, “The Radical Left always seems to have an Open Borders, Open Arms policy, so this should make them very happy!”
Trump repeated the remarks later at the White House: “We can give them an unlimited supply…let’s see if they have open arms.”
However on Monday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y.; House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md.; and House Homeland Security Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., were so concerned regarding the President’s tweets that they penned a letter to both DHS and the White House requesting whatever information or correspondence between administration officials regarding the Presidents proposal.
The President’s brilliant strategy of putting sanctuary loving Democrats on the spot seems to have worked, as an indignant Nadler wrote, “We are deeply troubled by multiple reports, recently confirmed by the President, that the Trump Administration is considering releasing detained immigrants into congressional districts represented by Democrats in a bizarre and unlawful attempt to score political points.”
Nadler is correct, in that the President is indeed scoring political points, in the highly charged immigration crisis. However, it’s unclear whether immigration agencies would now support the President’s proposal.
Complicating the issue even further for Democrats is Mark Morgan, the former Border Patrol chief under President Obama, who publicly came out in support of President Trump on Monday stating, “Congress has failed to do their job. Make no mistake, they could have prevented this (border crisis) and they failed to do so and then every time this current administration tries to come up with an option, they shoot it down. Well, I haven’t heard any options from them.”
Adding, “I’ve been there. The border patrol, ICE, their facilities are overwhelmed, the faith-based organizations and other non-governmental organizations are overwhelmed. They have no choice. They’re going to have to start pushing these individuals out. Shouldn’t we kind of share the burden throughout the country?”
