In the absence of political leadership in Congress, the crises at the U.S.-Mexican border has now taken an ominous turn. A militia group calling itself the United Constitutional Patriots has decided to fill the void by physically detaining Illegal aliens crossing into the United States via the New Mexico border.
The dangerous roundup of Illegal aliens at gunpoint is the end result of a do nothing Congress, forcing it’s citizens living within Border States to take the law into their own hands in order to protect their families and preserve their property against marauding illegal migrants, some of whom may be criminals or drug smugglers.
The armed group patrols the vast border rounding up illegal aliens and holding them until U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) guards can intervene.
According to the New York Times, the armed militia group as thus far apprehended and “arrested” about 200 illegal aliens this week alone documenting their efforts on YouTube, perhaps as a way of inspiring others living within border towns living under the constant threat of being victimized, not to wait for those “fat-cat” politicians in Washington, to finally earn their paychecks and begin governing.
In the past the CBP has issued instructions to armed residents that they’re not a recognized state or federal authority, and that they are not responsible if something bad should happen to them.
Ironically the CBP has indicated that the situation has reached a “breaking point” on their southern border as thousands upon thousands of migrants are overwhelming the system.
The Lone Star state has been particularly hard hit, and just this week, Nevada declared a state emergency. And although the CBP may be reluctant to publicly thank those militia groups for stepping up and assisting them, privately they’re a welcomed sight.
“Officially” according to Fox News Carlos A. Diaz, a spokesman for CBP has gone on record stating that the Border Patrol “does not endorse private groups or organizations taking enforcement matters into their own hands.”
Ironically the American Civil Liberties Union which apparently has no issue with thousands of illegal migrants breaking federal immigration laws apparently has an issue with armed American citizens attempting to protect their families against individuals overrunning their property, who may be criminals.
The ACLU sent a letter to the New Mexico governor denouncing the militia’s actions, citing that the militia had no legal authority under New Mexico or federal law to detain or arrest migrants in the United States.
However a gentleman named Mr. Benvie, speaking on behalf of the United Constitutional Patriots acknowledged that “If these people follow our verbal commands, we hold them until Border Patrol comes.”
Adding, “Border Patrol has never asked us to stand down.”
The governor of New Mexico, Michelle Lujan Grisham, said in a statement that it was “completely unacceptable” that migrant families “might be menaced or threatened in any way, shape or form when they arrive at our border.”
However Mr. Benvie contends his group’s actions were legal, comparing the detention of the migrants to “a verbal citizen’s arrest.”
Adding, “We’re just here to support the Border Patrol and show the public the reality of the border.”
He continued stating that the armed group will remain in place until the President’s wall becomes a reality and Congress finally does its job in legislating viable immigration laws that makes sense for our national security needs.
Thus far only one individual in Washington is taking the crisis at the border seriously and he resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
